Harry Haeder, age 90, of De Smet, formerly of Huron, died September 19, 2011 at the De Smet Good Samaritan Center. His funeral service will be 10:30 am Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 6-8 pm Friday, September 23, 2011 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to service. Harry's family requests that memorials be sent to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Pew Restoration Fund or the Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society in De Smet. Harry Haeder was born July 20, 1921 near Yale, South Dakota to Ernest and Martha (Schutz) Haeder. He graduated from Yale High School in 1941. Harry married Hazel Jungemann in Wolsey on September 28, 1947. The couple purchased the family farm northeast of Yale and farmed for over 50 years. Harry was one of the first farmers to use irrigation in Beadle County when he started in 1952. Harry and Hazel retired to Huron in 2000, and then the couple moved to De Smet in 2009 when Hazel entered the Good Samaritan Center. Harry enjoyed gardening, fishing, chocolate cake, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Harry was a member and served on the church board of Trinity Lutheran of Yale, and later Mt. Calvary Lutheran in Huron. He was a Board Member for Foster Township. Harry is survived by his wife, Hazel Haeder of De Smet; two daughters, Dianne (George) Mollner of De Smet, and her children, Derek, Allison, George Jr., Kristi, Donna (Carl) Rose of Billings, MT, and her children, Whitney, Matt, Hank; daughter-in-law, Debra Haeder of Germantown, Maryland, her children, Jennifer, Amy, Jeff, Stephen; 9 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Werner and Erwin; sisters, Irma and Elsie; and son, Dennis in 2011.
