Obituary

Harriet N. Turnwall, age 94, of Huron, died Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at SunQuest Healthcare Center.

Inurnment will be at 10 am on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum followed by her memorial service at 11am at First Presbyterian Church in Huron.

There will be no visitation.

Harriet Turnwall was born on October 13, 1921 to Fred and Dora (Goss) Long at Armour, SD. Harriet graduated from Armour High School in 1939.  She attended Dakota Wesleyan University and was named the Victory Queen at the Northwest Victory Exposition held in Huron in 1942. Harriet was also elected "Glamor Girl" as the most glamorous girl on campus at DWU.  Harriet taught school in Wagner, Sturgis, Leola, Lemmon, in South Dakota, and Omaha, NE.  While living in Huron, Harriet was the Children's Librarian at the Huron Public Library from 1971 to 1974.

Harriet was a member and past deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Huron, SD.  She was active in RSVP, served on the Concert Association Board of Directors, and was State President of the United Cerebral Palsy Organization.  Harriet was also a member of the Fortnightly Club and Chapter CH, PEO.

Harriet was united in marriage to Lloyd Turnwall on January 15, 1946 in Aberdeen, SD.  Lloyd died on December 27, 2011.

Grateful for having shared in Harriet's life are her two sons, Michael (Patty) of Huron, SD, and Robert (Sandy) of Lake Havasu City, AZ; five grandchildren, Lisa (Brian) Pfieff of Overland Park, KS, Erin (Dennis) Donnelly of Olathe, KS, Michael (Emily) Turnwall Jr., of Sioux Falls, SD, Sarah (Elijah) Turnwall of Huron, SD, and Ryan Turnwall of Show Low, AZ;  two step-grandchildren, Melisa Santiago of Newark, OH, and Aaron Anderson of Belle Fourche, SD; seven great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; brother, Marvin Long of Hemet, CA; and sister, Mardell Hawley of Sioux Falls, SD.

Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; daughter, Peggy (Robert) Rosen; two brothers, Donald and Merle Long; and a sister, LaVonne Bobb.
