Harold Thompson, age 96, of Huron, SD, died Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Huron Regional Medical Center.
His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron with burial at Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday night; or one hour prior to service at the church on Wednesday.
Harold Orville Thompson was born April 15, 1913, on the Thompson family farm near Doland. He was the son of Charles and Josephine (Felderman) Thompson. He attended the Pleasant Knoll rural school and was the last surviving member of the Doland High School class of 1931.
On June 21, 1953, he was united in marriage to Donna Anderson at the First United Methodist Church in Huron. He spent his life working on the family farm until moving to Huron in 2005.
Harold enjoyed hunting, gardening, studying history, and following the activities of his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Doland. As a child, he attended the Roe Church near the family farm and cared for the church cemetery until moving to Huron.
Harold is survived by his wife, Donna, of 56 years; his son, Scott (Pamela) Thompson of Doland; his daughter, Ruth (Monte) Mason of Redfield; five grandchildren, Meridith, Charles, and Amelia Thompson, Jessica(Dan) Hansen, Stephanie Mason; and one great grandchild, Maya Hansen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Alice and Myrtle.
