Harold R. Sprecher, age 81, of Huron, died on Sunday June 13, 2010, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
His Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, at Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m., and a prayer service to begin at 7:00 p.m.; or Thursday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.
Harold R. Sprecher, the son of Jacob and Maria (Frye) Sprecher, was born on February 12, 1929, on the family farm northwest of Virgil, SD. He attended school and graduated from Virgil High School in 1947. Harold married Yvonne Schiltz on November 27, 1949 in Huron, SD. They farmed for 40 years on the family farm south of Wolsey until he retired in 1990, when the couple moved to Huron, SD. Harold also received several awards for soil conservation.
Harold was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Wolsey, where he served as Sunday School Superintendant and Sunday School Teacher as well as holding various other offices in the church. Harold also served on the Virgil and Wolsey School Boards for many years. In 1980, Harold became a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Huron.
Harold enjoyed farming, fishing and taking care of his livestock. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Yvonne of Huron; 4 sons, Steve (Marian) Sprecher of Huron, SD, Bob Sprecher of Sioux Falls, SD, Lyle Sprecher of Virgil, SD, and Chuck Sprecher of Wolsey, SD; 10 grandchildren: Doug, Patrick, Joshua, Emily, Evan, Ryan, Tyler, Hilary, Taylor, and Cortney Sprecher; 4 great-granddaughters, Lilian, Ruby, Kaylee and Hannah; great-grandson, Caden; 2 step-brothers, Elmer (Myrna) Losing of Alpena, SD, and Curtis (Elaine) Losing of Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Elda Taylor of Rapid City, SD, half sister, Ella Mae (Allen) Hofer of Sioux Falls, SD; step-sister, Betty (Harold) Walters of Carpenter, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Pauline; daughter-in-law, Melissa Sprecher in 2005; 2 brothers, Oscar and Ewald Sprecher; and sister Loretta Sylke.
Memorials may be made in Harold's Name to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
