Harold M. Skorheim, age 86, of Huron, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2015 at his residence. His funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 19, 2015 at American Lutheran Church in Huron with burial and military honors by the Huron Veteran's Council at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-8 pm on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Welter Funeral Home, or one hour prior to the service at the church. Harold was born on June 19, 1928 in Huron to Oscar and Margaret (Delvaux) Skorheim. He attended school in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1947. Harold honorably served in the United States Army in November 10, 1950 until November 22, 1952, when he returned to Huron. Harold was united in marriage to Janice Weisbecker on January 17, 1953. Harold had a long career at Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. He also worked at Armour's for 11 years. He retired from the railroad on May 25, 1990. Harold loved to play golf and could be found most days out on the course during the golfing season. He enjoyed playing Bridge, Scrabble, Cribbage, and bingo with his family and friends. He also enjoyed gardening and baking. Harold adored babies and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an active volunteer at the Huron Senior Citizens Center and delivered many Meals on Wheels to the Huron community. He was an active supporter of the Huron Tigers and a big fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. Harold was a member of the American Legion, Railroad and Meat Packers Unions, and an active member of American Lutheran Church. Harold is survived by 3 daughters, Susan Reinhart of Huron, Nancy (Bob) Lorenz of Parkston, and Colleen (Mark) Fischer of Aberdeen; 3 sons, Richard (Kathy) Skorheim of Huron, Joseph (Linda) Skorheim of Huron, and Samuel Skorheim of Huron; 15 grandchildren, Alisha Reinhart, Maggie (Dustin) Stevens, Bart (Maggie) Lorenz, Benjamin (Kelli) Fischer, Abby (Brad) Jung, Matthew Fischer, Brady (Kimberly) Hastings, Kortney (Todd) Meek, Seth Hastings, Josh (Lindsey) Boomsma, Patrick Price, Katie Price, Alicia Price, Jessica Skorheim, and Sara Jo Skorheim; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Margaret Weisbecker of Mankato, MN, and in-laws Albert and Mary Jane Weisbecker of Madison, SD. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janice (Weisbecker) on September 18, 2010, and one brother, Norman (Arlene) Skorheim, sister-in-law, Beverly Ochs, and brother-in-law, Cap Weisbecker. Harold passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2015 at his residence at the age of 86 years,11 months, and 26 days.
