Obituary

Harold Chuck Mueller, age 86, of rural Hitchcock, died Wednesday afternoon, June 23, 2010, at his home.

His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2010, at Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Rites by American Legion Raymond-Hart Post #84 of Hitchcock.

Visitation with family present will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, June 27, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.; or one hour prior to service Monday at the church.

Family requests that memorials be sent to HRMC Hospice.

Harold Fredrich Mueller was born on June 19, 1924, at Java, SD, to Heinrich and Martha (Bollinger) Mueller. He attended Spring Lake School in Java. Chuck joined the Army Air Force in May 1946 and was discharged in October 1947 after serving in the Philippines.

Chuck married Beverly Jones on October 22, 1950, in Huron SD. The couple then farmed in the Hitchcock area.

He spent his free time as a member of the Hitchcock School Board, Cendak Water Board, James River Water Development District Board, Beadle County Planning Commission, and Beadle County ASCS, Pleasantview Township Board, American Legion Raymond-Hart Post #84 of Hitchcock, 40 et 8, Leader of Boy Scout Troop #16, and superintendent of grandstand tickets at State Fair. Chuck enjoyed planting trees and shelter belts. He received an award from the ASCS in recognition of his soil and water conservation achievements. He and Beverly spent the last 20 winters in Weslaco, TX.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beverly; son, Scott (Brenda) Mueller of Hitchcock; daughter, Kandice (Rick) Boomsma of Hitchcock; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff Fritzsche) Boomsma, Jeff (Tracy) Boomsma, Tim Boomsma, Jessica (Kasey) Kirkham, Jacque Mueller, Nelly Mueller, and Leslie (Brian Peterson) Newquist; great grandchildren, Alex Styer, Ashley Styer, Jack Boomsma, Taylor Knippling, and Boston Knippling; brothers, Otto (Anna) Mueller of Java, and Ervin (Priscilla) Mueller of Java; sister Anne Witlock of Java; many nieces and nephews; and many friends both here and at Snow to Sun in Weslaco, TX.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tom on July 2, 2006; brothers, Hank, Andy, Carl; sisters, Emma and Marie.
