Obituary

Harold J. Kutil, age 98, of 50 7th St. SE, and formerly of 150 Aberdeen Ave. SE, in Huron, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Friday, July 2, at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Friends may call Thursday evening, or Friday from 8 a.m. until time of service at the Welter Funeral Home. Harold J. Kutil was born on March 31, 1906, to Joseph C. and Emma E. (Forrest) Kutil at Lane, SD. He grew up in the Lane and Wessington Springs area where he attended school. Harold moved to Morningside where he and his brother owned and operated a grocery store. In September of 1942, Harold married Mary Ellen (Peck) Styer at De Smet, SD. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on September 4, 1942, during World War II, and was honorably discharged on November 15, 1943. He returned to Huron and was employed at Armour and Company in the Meat Packing Department as a meat trimmer for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. He is survived by 1 daughter, Betty (Richard) Dentz of Coon Rapids, MN; 2 step-daughters, Hazel Moeding of Huron, and Anna (Darwin) North of Howard; 3 grandchildren, Linda (Earl) Michael of Paragould, AR, Gail VanMaanen of Brookings, SD, and David Dentz of Blaine, MN; 8 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; many step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, and step-great great grandchildren; 1 brother, Leslie (Reniatta) Kutil of Big Stone City, SD; numerous nieces and nephews; and his buddy and companion Casper. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary on October 1, 1985; 1 grandson, Gordon Alan Lentz; 1 step-son, William Styer; 3 sisters, Edna Hall, Evelyn Johnson, and Lila Johnson; 4 brothers, Joseph Kutil, Leo Kutil, Milton Kutil, and Arthur Kutil; and 1 step-son-in-law, George Moeding.
