Obituary

Harlan Cleveland, age 74, of the Cavour/Iroquois area, died Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at his home. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 2, at Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron with Rev. Kris Larson officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Rites by the Bensley-Rounds American Legion Post #280 of Iroquois. Friends may call Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Saturday afternoon. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home with Rev. Rhonda Wellsandt-Zell officiating with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. Harlan Eugene Cleveland was born on May 7, 1932, to Floyd and Hazel (Knapp) Cleveland at Sisseton, SD. He grew up on a farm near Sisseton and attended rural school near his home. On December 10, 1952, Harlan entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on October 20, 1954. In 1955 Harlan married Delores Winegarden in Huron, SD. He worked at Armour and Company for 31 years along with farming. After his retirement he did odd jobs around Huron, worked at the Puppet Factory, and did custom farming for Floyd Lund and Craig Cronin. He attended the Esmond United Methodist Church, was a member of the Moose Lodge since 1951, the Bensley-Rounds American Legion Post #280 of Iroquois, and UCT. He is survived by his wife, Delores of 51 years; 3 daughters, Barb (Dale) Reilly of Iroquois, Sandra (Fred) Ehrk of Wolsey, and Karen (Kevin) Nelson of San Diego, CA; 1 foster daughter, Jayne (Rick) Eaton of Hastings, MI; 1 daughter-in-law, Margaret Maggie Cleveland of Wessington Springs; 16 grandchildren, Jody Wood, Melissa Wood, Francie Friesen, Rob Cleveland, David Cleveland, Wade Klousek, Travis Reilly, Shannon Johnson, Crystal Reilly, Adam Ehrk, Amber Ehrk, Ashley Ehrk, Katelyn Nelson, Krista Nelson, Danyelle Eaton, and Jerryd Eaton; 6 great grandchildren, Tyler Wood, Akira Cleveland, Mason Cleveland, Cody Friesen, Emma Friesen and BreeAnn Friesen; 6 brothers, Roy (Arlene) Cleveland of Sisseton, Duane (Judy) Cleveland of Pierpont, SD, Ervin (Maren) Cleveland of Cavour, Charles (Lorraine) Cleveland of Huron, Dale (Bonnie) Cleveland of Kirkland, WA, and Calvin (Linda) Cleveland of Fall City, WA; 2 sisters, Arlene (Sherman) Thovson of Rapid City, and Gloria Schlekewy of Blackhawk, SD; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Robert Cleveland; and 1 brother, James Cleveland.
