Gordon Gordy Olson, age 75, of 1366 Kansas Ave. NE, Huron, died Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at his home. His funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 1, at American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Wednesday afternoon. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Gordon Paul Olson was born on October 24, 1931, to Paul F. and Florence (Blogett) Olson at Faulkton, SD. At the age of 3 he moved with his parents to a farm near Wolsey, SD, where he attended country school. The family moved to a farm near Virgil, SD, just prior to Gordy entering his freshman year at Huron High School. On November 3, 1948, Gordy enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged on October 30, 1952, and returned to Huron. He moved to Houghton, SD, where he worked on a farm, and later to Long Beach, CA, and worked for the Ford Motor Company. In the early 1960s he bought and operated a farm in Ettrick, WI, and also worked at a local cheese factory. He later moved to Arcadia, WI, and for several years he worked in a furniture factory, for area farmers, and in Winona, MN, at the Winona Fiberite Corporation which made raw materials for the space shuttle. It was here that he met Rosemary Klopotek and they were married on April 23, 1976, in Winona. The couple later moved to Fountain City, WI, and then to Trempealeau, WI. In 1993, they moved to Alpena, SD, where they operated a hobby farm, and to Huron in 2000. Gordy was a member of the American Lutheran Church, and the William Reaves American Legion Post #7, both of Huron. Gordy was a good storyteller and enjoyed visiting with his friends. He loved farming and was an expert on John Deere tractors. He also was an avid reader all of his life and especially liked mystery and western novels, and enjoyed crossword puzzles. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary of Huron; 2 sons, John Olson of Platteville, WI, and Joe Olson of Mineral Point, WI; 1 step-son, Warren (Shannon) Jepson of Union Grove, WI; 1 step-daughter, Barbara (Mark) Brothier of Thousand Oaks, CA; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Darrel Olson of Huron, and Donald Olson of Leavenworth, WA; and 1 sister, Dorothy (Bill) Lewis of Miami, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
