Gordon Nelson, age 73, of Huron, SD, died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Huron Regional Medical Center. His memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 7, at Congregational United Church of Christ with burial of his cremated remains at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors. Memorial visitation will be Friday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Gordon Dennis Nelson, son of Galen "Bud" and Lillian (Hansen) Nelson, was born on April 9, 1940, in Huron, SD. He graduated from Huron High School in 1958. He attended Huron College for a period of time, transferring to South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in Rapid City, then to Pierce College in Northridge, CA. Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Navy on January 23, 1959. He was honorably discharged on January 22, 1963, and returned to Huron. On May 9, 1964, Gordon married Dellila "Dee" Rearick in Huron. Shortly after they moved to Grenada Hills, CA, Gordon owned and operated his own businesses, K&G Electric, and Gordon Nelson Construction. The couple returned to Huron in 1982 where Gordon continued his Gordon Nelson Construction business. He is survived by his wife, Dee of Huron; 2 sons, Russell (Patty) Nelson of Huron, and Dennis (Heather) Nelson of Huron; 7 grandchildren, Cully, Brittni, Carrson, Lacey, Kenny, Cole, and Harley; 4 siblings, Galen (Janice) Nelson of Huron, LaVonne (Morris) Brosnan of Rapid City, Penny (Marlin) Magstadt of Mitchell, and Rick (Brenda) Nelson of Huron; mother-in-law, Irene Rearick of Huron; sister-in-law, Janice (Larry) Frey of Huron; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Lillian and C.L. "Todd" Heim; his father and step-mother, Galen and Charlotte Nelson; father-in-law, Keith Rearick; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Rearick.
