Glen Taylor, age 81, of 165 3rd St. NE, Huron, SD, died Saturday, October 18, 2008, at the Huron Sunquest Healthcare Center.
His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, at the church of the Open Bible with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be this Tuesday from 1-8 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 4-6:30 p.m.; or Wednesday afternoon prior to the service at the church.
Glen William Taylor was born on May 4, 1927, to Fred and Bernice (Schafer) Taylor at Wanblee, SD. As a young child he moved with his family to Hot Springs where he grew up and received his education.
Following his education Glen lived in Belle Fourche, SD, until the mid 1950's when he moved to Huron where he worked at Armour & Company.
On June 14, 1958, Glen married Lila Erickson in Huron. In 1960, Glen began working in construction as a cement finisher for Joe Zell Construction. Later in his career he worked for various companies until his retirement in 1991.
He became a resident of the Huron Sunquest Healthcare Center in February of 2008.
He was a member of the Assembly of God Church for 30 years, and the last several years he attended the Church of the Open Bible. His many interests included fishing, car racing, the Minnesota Vikings, playing cards, temporary construction work, and yardwork for several of his neighbors following his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Lila of Huron; 3 sons, Rodney (Linda) Taylor of Belle Fourche, Roby (Mary Lou) Taylor of Sioux Falls, and Terry (Cheryl) Taylor of Champlin, MN; 3 daughters, VaDean (Jerry) Kosub of Athens, TX, Sherry (Kirt) Centela of Columbus, OH, and Sandra (Bruce) Johnson of Zimmerman, MN; 16 grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Bornlinghouse, Stpehanie Kosub, Chris Alarcom, Seselia Alarcom, Gena Alarcom, Rita Alarcom, Aaron Centela, Andrea Centela, Rebecca Johnson, Sara Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Abigail Johnson, Michael Taylor, Stephanie Taylor, Jeremiah Taylor, and Teanna Taylor; 1 great grandchild, Halie Bornlinghouse; 1 brother, Gene Taylor of Sioux Falls; and 2 sisters, Fay Hager of Pueblo, CO, and Irma Taylor of Winner, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Myrtle and Leola; 1 brother, Lloyd; and 2 brothers-in-law.
