Glen R. Marshall, age 89, of Hitchcock, died on Monday, January 26, 2015 at his home. His funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 31st at the First United Methodist Church in Hitchcock with burial and military graveside honors conducted by the American Legion Raymond-Hart Post #84 at the Altoona Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 5 to 7 pm on Friday at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the church. Glen was born on December 20, 1925 in rural Hitchcock to Herb and Mary (Payne) Marshall. He graduated from Bonilla High School. He honorably served in the U.S. Army from January 11, 1945 to November 18, 1946. Glen was united in marriage to Maxine Taylor on January 12, 1949 in Wolsey and they recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. When he was actively farming, he enjoyed going to sales and buying cattle. When he retired, Glen enjoyed playing cards with his family and working with his miniature horses. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Hitchcock United Methodist Church. He is survived by wife, Maxine Marshall of Hitchcock; 4 sons, Richard (April) Marshall, Gary (Lynne) Marshall, Terry (Dawn) Marshall, all of Hitchcock, and Michael Marshall of Huron; 9 grandchildren (who will serve as casket bearers), Rachelle (Michael) Munson, David (Dawn) Marshall, Lori (Terry) Wieting, Jayme Marshall, Kristi (Jim) Winegar, Jodi Marshall, Marissa Marshall, Taylor Marshall, and Daniel Marshall; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Lenore Schamp of Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Lawrence, Carl, Clyde, Lester, Lyle, and Keith Marshall; and 6 sisters, Vera Woodard, Ellen LeGrand, Reva Maher, Norma Maher, Jessie Houck, and Marie Malone.
