Glen R. Halter, 81, of rural Huron, SD died Sunday, December 4, 2016.

Mass of Christian Burial for Glen will be at 11 am on Saturday, December 10th at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery with military honors by the Huron Veterans Council.

Visitation with the family present will be 5-6:30 pm, Friday, December 9 at Welter Funeral Home, followed by a Scripture and Rosary Service at 6:30 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Glen Richard Halter was born on September 23, 1935 in Huron to Joseph and Frances Halter. He attended St. Theresa (St. Martin) Catholic School and graduated from Huron High School in 1953. Glen grew up farming southeast of Huron with his brother LeRoy and father Joseph. He proudly served in the SD Army National Guard for 9 years.

Glen married Ellen Larson on May 17, 1961. Together, they started their own farming and dairy operation. Glen enjoyed hunting, playing cards, and sports.

Glen is survived by his wife Ellen and six children; Julie (Dennis) Wieczorek and children, Gabe and McKayla of Hartford, SD; Mike (Linda) Halter and children, Amber, Matt, and Lori of Huron, SD; Bruce (Kathy) Halter of Bettendorf, IA; David (Kathy) Halter and children, Paul, Krystal, and Adam of Brandon, SD; Diane (Keith) Backer and children, Raymond and Bryce of Brandon, SD; and Ross (Abby) Halter and children, Lily and Ben of Huron, SD.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents and brother, LeRoy Halter
