Gladys Pageler, age 98, of 420 21st St. SW, Huron, died Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Monday, December 4, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Britton and Pastor Jan Price officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening and Monday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Monday afternoon. There will be a Prayer Service at 5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the family present from 4:00 to 6:30 PM. Gladys Pageler was born Gladys Viola Walraven on July 12, 1908, to Charles and Maggie (Stambaugh) Walraven on her parents farm in Fairfield Township, rural Huron, SD. On March 6, 1930, Gladys married Everett Pageler of Hitchcock. They lived on the same farm northwest of Broadland for 64 years prior to moving to the Huron Towers in Huron on October 19, 1994. Gladys moved to StoneyBrook Suites in Huron on June 27, 2005, and then became a resident of the Huron Nursing Home on June 2, 2006. She was a lifelong member of the Broadland Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women in which she held various offices in the church and the UMW, Sunday School teacher for many years, Hope Ladies Aid, and secretary of the Broadland School Board. Gladys loved spending time with her family, and working in her garden and her yard. She is survived by 1 son, Keith of Hitchcock; 2 daughters, Audrey Jean (Marvin) Boe of Rapid City, and Janice (Thomas) Koth of Wessington; 8 grandchildren, Elaine Jungemann, Jeff Pageler, Bruce Pageler, Darwin Boe, Peony (Donnie) Hammerquist, Jeanne (Howard) Flack, Brenda Saboe, and Tara Koth; 14 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law, Frances Walraven of Watertown; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett on December 24, 1999, at which time they had been married 69 years and 9 months; 1 daughter-in-law, Nancy Pageler; 3 brothers, Benjamin in infancy, Ollie, and John; 4 sisters, Bessie Hartley, Helen Grimm, Verna Nash, and Evelyn Deyo; 1 sister-in-law, Elma Walraven; and 4 brothers-in-law, Paul Hartley, Andrew Grimm, Lester Nash, and Marvin Deyo. Casket Bearers will be Jeff Pageler, Bruce Pageler, Darwin Boe, Howard Flack, and Donnie Hammerquist.
