Gladys L. Meyer, age 82, of 50 7th St. SE, Huron, formerly of 1006 Kansas Ave. SE, Huron, died Friday, July 28, 2006, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Monday, July 31, 2006, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Jonathan Boehne and Rev. Dale Sattgast officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call this Sunday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Monday morning. The family will be present from 6:00 to 9:00 PM this Sunday evening at the funeral home. Gladys Meyer was born Gladys Lorraine Patrick on January 27, 1924, to George and Hilda (Wickland) Patrick at Huron, SD. She grew up in the Carpenter area and attended school at the Davenhill and Foot Country Schools in Barrett Township. She graduated from Bancroft High School in 1942 and then attended Northwest College of Commerce in Huron where she received her teaching degree. She then taught at the Meyer School in Barrett Township. On March 12, 1949, Gladys married Walter H. Meyer at Huron. They farmed on the Meyer homestead in Clyde Township until moving into Huron in February of 1978. Gladys was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid Society, Sunday School teacher for many years, and an active member of the Huron Area Senior Center where she, along with her husband Walter, was involved in many volunteer activities up until the time that she entered assisted living in 1997. Her many interests included making quilts with her friends at the church, crossword puzzles, camping and traveling on Senior Citizen trips when Walter was alive, gardening, reading, and playing cards. She is survived by 1 son, Kevin Meyer (and fiance Glenda Davis) of Watertown; 1 daughter, Karen (Robert) North of Huron; 8 grandchildren, Christina (Lonny) Kruger, Scott (Kristie) North, Jennifer (Brian) Matejek, James (Jennifer) Meyer, Sheldon (Tammy) Kellar, Travis (Jennifer) Kellar, Greg (Nicole) Kellar, and Ben (Vickie) North; and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter in 1993; and a daughter-in-law, Marian Meyer in 2004. Casket Bearers will be Marlin Kohlmeyer, Dennis Meyer, Dennis Owens, Dennis Schilling, Chuck Kranz, and Keith Glanzer.
