Gladys Marie Gross was born on June 15, 1929 in Doland, South Dakota to Sam D. Gross and Elizabeth (Kleinsasser) Gross. She attended AshGrove School and Doland High School.
Gladys married Dave Hofer on February 27, 1951 in Carpenter, South Dakota. Gladys and Dave made their home on a farm near Hitchcock and then moved to Huron in 1982. Gladys worked at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home for 23 years.
Gladys loved baking especially banana bread and chocolate chip cookies that she enjoyed sharing with her family and friends. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Church.
Gladys is survived by her husband, Dave Hofer of Huron; children Carol (Doug) Fox of Bancroft, Jerolynn (Dan) Larson of Aberdeen, and Keith (Teresa) Hofer of Yankton. Grandchildren; Chad, David, and Michael Larson of Aberdeen, Jason (Dr. Alese) Fox of Huron, Julie (Dan) Meylor of Mitchell, Jon (Molly) Fox of Bancroft, Jeremy Fox of Bancroft, Kari (Jamin) Johnson of Jamestown, ND, Kasey (Katie) Hofer of Yankton, Miranda (Tom) Nygaard of Watertown, and Chelsey (David) Ewalt of Milbank. 17 Great-grandchildren Stirling and Sullivan Fox, Hudson and Maximus Meylor, Ava, Rylee and Brynlee Fox, Giovanni and Leland Larson, Landon, Lauren, and Logan Johnson, Kaleb, Taylor and Baby Knox Hofer due next week, Elsie Nygaard and Baby Girl Thompson due in January 2019. Her brothers and sisters; Vernel Gross of Platte, Clifford Gross of Rapid City, Duane (Naomi) Gross of Tulare, LeRoy (Barbara) Gross of Huron, Allen (Karen) Gross of Menno, Mary Ann Gross of West Brook, MN, Marlyce Spain of Roseville, NC, Victor (Twila) Gross of Hitchcock. Brothers-in-law Johnnie (Elvina) Hofer of Huron, Sam (Ruth) Hofer of Hitchcock and Larry Malikowski of Florida as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Marcella Malikowski, her great-grandson Deegan Meylor and her sisters-in-law Ruth Gross and Rosealine Gross.
