Gladys C. Davis, age 82, of 2023 Ohio Ave. SW, Huron, died Monday, September 6, 2004, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral mass will be at 11:00 AM Friday, September 10, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Donald Imming officiating. Burial will be at St. Martin Cemetery. Friends may call this Thursday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the mass at the church Friday morning. There will be a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM this Thursday evening at the funeral home. Gladys Davis was born Gladys Kappler on September 9, 1921, to William and Bertha (Halter) Kappler at Armour, SD. At the age of seven she moved with her family to Huron where she attended school and graduated from Huron High School in 1940. After completion of high school she worked for Artz Studio and Sears. On September 21, 1948, Gladys married John Robert Davis at Huron. They farmed in the Huron area until her husbands death on July 17, 1976. Gladys then moved to Huron where she worked as a bookkeeper for the Haskell-Tompkins-Haskell Company. She retired in 1996. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, a volunteer at the St. Francis Shop and as a Pink Lady for the Huron Regional Medical Center, and a member of the card club. In her younger years she enjoyed traveling. She is survived by 2 sons, Bob Davis of Wichita, KS, and Dennis (Ginger) Davis of Huron; 1 daughter, Shari Davis of Lakewood, WA; 5 grandchildren, Kim Liebelt of Aberdeen, Kacey (Tod) Eichacker of Wichita, KS, John Davis of Wichita, KS, Dustin Davis of Huron, and Cydnee Davis of Huron; 6 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary (Chris) Diede of Huron, and Bernice (Melvin) Rex of Salem, OR; 1 daughter-in-law, Kathy Grovenburg and her husband, Doug, and their son, Kenny of Dell Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; 2 sons, Sid Davis, and infant John Davis; 1 brother, William Kappler; 1 sister, Louise Trowbridge; 1 sister-in-law, Gertrude Kappler; and 1 brother-in-law, Burrel Trowbridge.
