Gerald E. Johannes, age 70, of Huron died Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. His funeral service will be 11:00 am Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron including military rites provide by the Huron Veterans Council with burial on Monday, April 15, 2013 in the Black Hills National Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 5-8 pm Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the funeral service. Gerald Johannes was born on July 25, 1942 in Pierre, SD to Arthur and Lillian (Bowder) Johannes. Jerry moved with his family to Huron when he was one and attended the Huron schools. He graduated from Huron High School in 1962. Jerry enlisted in the United States Army in January of 1963. He was Honorably Discharged in January of 1966. Jerry worked around the Huron area helping people with demolition projects. He received several U.S. Patents for explosives. Jerry married Ida Mager in October of 2011 in Huron. He loved dogs and riding his motorcycle. Jerry is survived by his step-children, Russell (Mara) Mager of Huron, Frank Mager of Chicago, IL, Ron (Kim) Mager of Huron; one sister, Shirley (Jim) Heald of Rapid City; several nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ida in 2012; two brothers, Robert and John; and one nephew, Thomas Heald.
