Gerald L. Daly, Sr., age 70, of Huron, SD, died Friday, October 14, 2011, at Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 20, at Welter Funeral Home with burial at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Lake View Cemetery in Columbia, SD. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8p.m. at Welter Funeral Home and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.; or Thursday morning one hour prior to the service. Gerald Lee Daly, son of Earl and Adiline (Kotlarz) Daly, was born on January 14, 1941, in Arcadia, WI. He was baptized on January 17, 1941. The family moved to Columbia, SD, when Jerry was 10 years old. He attended high school in Columbia. He married Connie Severson in Britton, SD. To this union 6 children were born. While living in Columbia, Jerry worked for Peavey Elevator and Peavey Lumber Yard. He worked for South Dakota Wheat Growers until 1977 when he moved to Huron and continued employment with them in Huron. In 1983, Jerry began working for the Goethel family at Hurst's Corner. Although he retired in 2006 due to ill health, he loved his job so much that he continued to work as a fill-in at Hurst's Corner when needed. He loved carpentry and building things, especially dog houses and tool sheds. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, antelope hunting, and country music. Jerry and Barb were both very willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, especially the elderly. He was a member of AARP. He is survived by 6 children, Rodney (Kim) Daly of Huron, Jerry Daly Jr. of Huron, Janet (Doug) Brodersen of Wolsey, Cindy (Mike) Kasa of Huron, Shirley (Kelly) Jorgenson of Watertown, and Marilyn LaTourelle of Ellsworth, WI; his life-companion, Barb Kjellerson of Huron; 12 grandchildren, Cody Daly, Carissa Daly, Beau Dejean, Kurt (Nicki) Dorris, Alan (Ashley) Dorris, Troy Dorris, Ryan Kasa, Kyle Kasa, Melissa Kasa, Jenna Jorgenson, Bryce Jorgenson, Meghan LaTourelle, and Brenden LaTourelle; and great grandchildren; 10 brothers and sisters, Bobby Daly of Idaho, Betty Bice of Arcadia, WI, Charlene (Gary) Peterson of White Hall, WI, Diane (Chuck) Herman of Clearwater, FL, Joette (Greg) Stembridge of Brooklyn Center, MN, MaryLou (Frank) Larosa of Monroe, IA, Lila Daly of Monroe, IA, Earleen Pope of Apple Valley, MN, Lester (Veronica) Daly of San Antonio, TX, and Kevin Daly of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents.
