Obituary

Gerald Jerry Corcoran, age 67, of 767 Lawnridge SE, Huron, died Friday, April 22, 2005, at the Huron Nursing Home. His funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 26th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Joe Holzhauser officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or Tuesday morning prior to the Mass at the church. The family will be present from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Monday evening at the funeral home with a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM. Gerald Edward Corcoran was born on February 25, 1938, to Charles E. and Vera (Anderson) Corcoran at Huron, SD. He attended school at Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1956. On April 7, 1958, Jerry married Cherryl Howard at Huron. In 1959, he went into business with his father at the Huron Cleaners. Later, Jerry became the owner and he operated the Huron Cleaners for 45 years before retiring in October 2004. Jerry was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, a life member and PER of Elks Lodge #444, Sertoma, Huron Country Club where he was a board member, Huron Jaycees where he received the Distinguished Service Award, Chamber of Commerce, South Dakota Retailers and the Knights of Columbus. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Cherryl of Huron; three sons, Lieutenant Colonel Scott (Rene) Corcoran of Ellsworth Air Force Base, Bret (Jan) Corcoran of Brandon, SD and Tim (Diane) Corcoran of Sartell, MN; one daughter, Lisa (Brad) Cranston of Huron; 12 grandchildren, Adam, Nick, Tate and Rachel Corcoran all of Sartell, MN, Alyx, Taylor and Connor Corcoran all of Brandon, Haley and Quinn Cranston of Huron and Jack, Sam and Julianne Corcoran all of Ellsworth Air Force Base; his mother, Vera Corcoran of Huron; one sister, Sharon Hoy of Indianapolis, IN; his mother-in-law, Dora Howard of Huron; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Charles, two brothers-in-law, Richard Hoy and Jon Howard, and his father-in-law, Orville Howard. Casket bearers will be Leonard Fritzsche, Tony Arteman, Al Hawks, Mike Miller, Dale Matthews and Jane Raschke.
