Obituary

Georgiana Pinky Ferry, age 59, of 775-3 Ikehara, Okinawa Japan, died Friday, November 23, 2007 at the Nakagami Hospital, Okinawa City, Okinawa Japan. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 8th at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with Father Terry Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 to 8:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home or one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday afternoon. There will be a Scripture Service at 7:30 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Pinky was born Georgiana Kay Clifton on March 1, 1948, to George and Leanna (Thompson) Clifton in Wessington Springs, SD. At the age of six she moved to Huron where she grew up and graduated from Huron High School in 1966. Pinky attended Northern State College majoring in special and elementary education, graduating in 1970. On October 17, 1969, Pinky married Charles (Chuck) Ferry. After her graduation from Northern, the couple moved to Miller, SD until 1972. In 1972, Chuck enlisted in the United States Navy and for the next fourteen years they bounced back and forth between Millington, TN and Jacksonville, FL with Pinky teaching school in both locations. In 1986 they moved to Okinawa, Japan where Pinky taught for the Department of the Defense Dependent Schools. She taught at Makiminato, Kinser, Kadena and Killen elementary schools until she received a transfer to Byrd Elementary school in Yokohama, Japan where they lived until she transferred back to Kadena Elementary School in Okinawa in 2006. Pinky loved working with the children and taught for over 37 years. Her interests included traveling and going to shrine (antique flea markets) sales searching for Japanese antiques and collectibles. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Charles Ferry and two children, David Ferry of Saint Louis, MO, and Brian Ferry of Baltimore, MD; one sister, Lesa (Nolan) Wipf of Hitchcock; and two brothers, Gary Clifton of San Leandro, CA and Loren Clifton of Hailey, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Leana Clifton.
