George C. Zilko, age 92, of Carthage, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Avantara in Huron. A graveside service to celebrate George's life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 12, 2025 in the mausoleum at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron with military rites by the Huron Veteran's Council. A time for food and fellowship will follow at the Huron Event Center.

George Carl Zilko was born on January 30, 1932 in Belle Prairie Township, South Dakota to parents William Carl and Gertrude (Montgomery) Zilko. George attended Carthage High School, graduating in 1950. After high school, George proudly served in the United States Army from April 1953 to March of 1955 during the Korean War.

George married Delores (Parker) Johnson on March 3, 1962 in Huron at the American Lutheran Church. Delores, Mike and George moved to Carthage where they farmed. George was a life-long farmer.  In retirement, Delores and George enjoyed taking bus trips and seeing relatives in many different states.

Grateful for having shared in his life is his son, Mike (Matt) Johnson of Minneapolis, MN; sister-in-law, Shirley (Rolland) Koth of Sioux Falls and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Delores; his parents; sister and brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice in George's name.
