George F. Roush, age 86, of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. A prayer service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Welter Funeral Home with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron with military honors by the Huron Veteran's Council. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.
George Fredrick Roush was born on January 5, 1935 to parents Lloyd and Helen (Norby) Roush in Huron, South Dakota. He graduated from Huron High School in 1953 and joined the United States Marine Corp. George was stationed in Camp Pendleton and served honorably from 1954 to 1965. He attended one year of college at University of Oregon-Eugene. After his service, George returned to Huron where he started working for Telect as a tool and die mechanic for over 20 years.
In his spare time, George enjoyed woodworking, model airplanes and ships, and reading. He loved going to the public library. He was a member of AA since the mid 1970's. He was also a member of the Marine Corp League, Model Airplane Club, and American Lutheran Church. He enjoyed traveling with the Marine Corp League and AA friends.
George was deeply devoted to his immediate family, taking care of his mother and sister for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Helen; and his brother, Richard.
He is survived by his sisters Sharon (Kelly) Brown of Huntersville, North Carolina, and Jeannie Roush of Huron; 7 nieces and nephews, Mike Roush, Jennifer Roush, James Roush, Steven Brown, Bradley Brown, Sonja Gilbert, and Colleen Nicoll; 11 great nieces and nephews and 5 great-great nieces and nephews.
