George DeLong, age 78, of Huron, passed away Monday, December 18, 2017 at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. His funeral service will be 10:30 am on Friday, December 22, 2017 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial following at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday.

George was born on February 18, 1939 in White, SD to Claus and Jennie (Hendricks) DeLong. George was united in marriage to Betty J. Kirton on June 3, 2000 in Huron. He loved auto mechanics and spent most of his free time working on anything with an engine in his garage and was known to tinker on carburetors at the kitchen table. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and liked watching movies and TV.

George is survived by his wife Betty of Huron; two daughters, Kimberly (Kurt) Vitense of St. Peters, MO and Jill DeLong of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Ashley (Micah) Peebles, Aubrie, Bryden and Annika Vitense, three great grandchildren, two brothers, Claus (Junior) DeLong and Marvin DeLong, both of Huron;  stepsons, Ruben (Lori) Fuerst and Kevin (Michelle) Slee, all of Liberty Center, OH; step-daughter Belinda Jones of Neapolis, OH; sister-in-law, Deanna Butler of Lead, SD; brother-in-law, Clarence (Libby) Kirton, Jr. of Rock Springs, WY; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, six brothers and one stepdaughter.
