George G. Broer, 88, Huron, SD passed away Monday, February 6, 2017 at his home.
His funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Huron Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 8 at Welter Funeral Home, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm.
George Broer was born on November 29, 1928 to Paul Amos and Daisy Violet (Brockman) Broer near Huron. He was raised in the Huron area, living his whole life within a half mile of where he was raised. He attended country school through the eighth grade as his older brothers had left to serve in World War II and he stayed home to help on the farm. George spent his entire life farming and raised fat cattle for many years. He mowed, raked and baled hay this summer, but was pretty upset he wasn't able to combine this year.
During his lifetime George was active on many boards and in many farming organizations, including the Alpena Co-op Board and the Grant Township Board.
George is survived by his wife, Dorothy, Huron; sons, Gerald (Julie) Broer, Rapid City; Eldon (Brenda) Broer, Alpena; Edwin (Cindy) Broer, Lacrosse, WI; seven grandchildren, Phillip Broer, Kristi Broer, Veronica Wesseling, Bronson Broer, Carter Broer, Jackson Broer, Aaron Broer; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Illene Harrison, Albuquerque, NM; and brother, Wesley (Sara) Broer, Black Hawk.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles (Maxine) Broer, Robert (Theda) Broer, and Alan Broer.
