Genevieve F. McMillan, age 93, of Huron, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Avantara Huron. Her Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Living Hope Alliance Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation, with her family present, will be from 4-6 P.M., on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at Welter Funeral Home; or visitation one hour prior to the service on Wednesday morning at the church.

Genevieve Fern was born on December 5, 1929 in Marshall, Minnesota to parents Harry and Veda (Rooney) Rasmussen. She grew up on a farm in Lincoln County near Lake Benton, Minnesota. Genevieve attended Dramman Township school from 1st to 4th grade in Minnesota, before moving to Clark County and attending Bunker Hill School near Carpenter, SD thru 8th grade. She graduated from Willow Lake High School.

She married Charles R. McMillan on September 12, 1948, in Carpenter, SD. They made their home on a farm in Clark County, Union Township for 9 years and then moved into Carpenter for 9 years.  They operated McMillan Grocery during that time.  They moved to Huron in 1968.  Genevieve worked at several places in Huron including the Top Hat Motel, J.C. Penney, Habicht's, and Pioneer Market. She then began her career with Social Services as a Homemaker and Home Health/Hospice Aide, retiring when she was 81 years old in 2011.

She enjoyed rummage sales, reading, puzzles of all kinds, cooking, and attended plays and concerts. She, also loved to travel.  They started with a tent when the kids were little and their last camper was a 28 foot Excel. She and Bud traveled and camped all over the USA and Canada.  After Bud passed away, she traveled with her family on many vacations.  She also enjoyed numerous bus tours.  She was a member of Carpenter Methodist Ladies Aide and Wesleyan Missionary Society.

She is survived by her children, Linda (Daryl) Haeder of Huron, Thomas (Gerri) McMillan of Sioux Falls, and Jane (Mick) Denzin of Buffalo, SD; grandchildren, Lisa (Skip) McWethy, Huron; Lori Cameron, MPLS; Christina (Rod) Friedrich, Sioux Falls; Michelle (Matthew) Rist, Ft.Worth TX; Corey McMillan, Brandon;  Breck (Rhonda) Buer, Worland, WY; and Ali Arndorfer, Bismarck, ND; step-grandchildren Donna Haeder, Wolsey; and Corey Haeder, MPLS;  and many great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Veda Rasmussen; her husband, Charles McMillan in 1997; her siblings: Harry Jr, Dale, Noreen Dwyer and Dean; several nieces and nephews.
