Genevieve Kahre, age 90, of Wolsey died Friday, May 18, 2012, at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. Her funeral service will be 10:30 am Thursday, May 24 2012, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey with burial in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 6-8 pm Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Welter Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 pm; or Thursday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Genevieve Caroline Jungemann was born October 18, 1921, to Erich and Mayme (Fischer) Jungemann in Wolsey. She was baptized, confirmed, and a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey. Gen graduated from Wolsey High School in 1939 as salutatorian and attended Huron Business School. She worked for a few years at Standard Oil in Huron. On June 27, 1943, Gen married the love of her life, Edward Kahre. They ran a dairy farm for many years. They retired from the farm in 2011 and moved to Wolsey. Their grandson, Trent and his wife, Jenifer, now live on the homestead. Gen gave piano lessons for many years and had several 3rd generation students when she retired in 2009. Gen was a member of the Huron Area Music Teachers Association, Thursday Musicale, and the National Music Teachers Association. She was also a member of The Happy Homemakers Extension Club and The Wolsey Lions. She was recognized by the AAUW for her outstanding contributions to the Arts. In June of 2009, Gen was honored by the St. John's congregation for over 60 years of services as an organist, adult choir director, and director of Gloria Dei Bell Choir. She also served many years as a Sunday School Teacher and Junior Choir Director. Gen's church, her family, and her music were very much the focus of her life. Gen is survived by her husband of 68 years, Edward of Wolsey; her children, Tim Kahre of Lincoln NE, and Valerie (Marlin) Kohlmeyer of Wolsey; four grandchildren, Trent (Jenifer) Kahre of Wolsey, Genae (Paul) Gilbertson of Northfield, MN, Clayton Kohlmeyer of Wolsey, and Melanie Kohlmeyer (Robert Leuty) of Tea, SD; and two great grandchildren, Tyler and Natalie of Tea; brothers, Bertram (Anita) Jungemann of Las Cruces, NM, Luther (Joyce Jungemann of Osprey, FL, and Quin (Joyce) Jungemann of Lynn Haven, FL; sister, Gloria (Jerrald) Zupfer of Westwood, NJ; sister-in-law, Verla Jungemann of Seward, NE; and many nieces and nephews. Gen was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Kevin Jon; brother, Herb Jungemann; Kahre family, Esther (Robert Jungemann), (Fred) Krueger, Art (Gertrude) Kahre, Herb (Elaine) Kahre, and Irvin (Violet) Kahre.
