Genevieve Delores Brandt was born on February 15, 1931 in Ortonville, Minnesota to parents Carl and Luella Edna (Ulrich) Brandt. Genevieve attended grade school in Grant County #5 and 7, high school in Big Stone City and then attended Minneapolis Business College.
Gen married Willis Hofhenke on April 15, 1951 in Big Stone City, SD. The couple lived in Milbank until 1964 when they moved to Huron. Raising her family was very important to Gen. After her children were in school, she worked as a cook at Our Home, Inc. and Center for Independence.
Gen had a heart of gold and never passed judgement on anyone. She loved her family-children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Cooking for her family was also important to her. She made the best lasagna and enjoyed canning, especially pickles, pears, and peaches. She loved communicating with her family on Facebook and enjoyed watching Netflix. She also enjoyed handcrafts such as sewing, embroidery, and crocheting. Before Willis' passing, they enjoyed going on bus tours and camping. She enjoyed sitting on her new patio and watching the birds at her bird feeders.
Her faith was a big part of her life and that of her families. She was a member of Riverview United Methodist Church where she was involved in Bible Studies.
She is survived by her six children, Francis (Geraldine) Hofhenke of Big Stone City, SD, Diane (Dennis) Johnson of Enderlin, ND, Becky Bryant of Ethan, Doug (Karla) Hofhenke of Huron, Kerry Hofhenke of Huron, and DeDe Hofhenke of Huron; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Verna (Arlin) Angerhofer of Big Stone City, SD, Clarice (Ray) Krippner of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Alice (Lynn) Walter of Hitchcock; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Hofhenke of Milbank and Jackie Beiring of Champlin, MN; brother-in-law, David (Glenda) Hofhenke; and Gen's very special friend, Wanda Bogh.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willis on January 23, 2013; her brother, LeRoy, and one great-granddaughter, Leanne.
