Genevieve Bregel was born Genevieve Pederson on November 23, 1921, to Hagbert and Clara (Gunderson) Pederson at Langford, SD. They lived on a farm in Langford, SD for approximately four years and then moved to a farm in Roslyn, SD. After living on the farm in Roslyn for approximately six years the family moved to Clark, SD. Genevieve graduated from Clark High School and then went on to nurses training at St. Lukes Hospital in Aberdeen, SD. These were some of the happiest years in her young life as she enjoyed learning the nursing profession and also enjoyed the catholic sisters who taught there, as they were very kind but also very strict. After graduating from nurses training in 1948 she moved to Webster, SD where she started work at the hospital there. It was then that she met David Bregel whom she later married on June 26, 1951. After a short honeymoon at International Falls, MN, they moved to Sisseton, SD where they remained until 1966. While in Sisseton they gave birth to two sons, James David Bregel and Michael Edward Bregel. In July of 1966 they moved to Huron where David continued his optometry profession and Genevieve worked at the Huron hospital. After about ten years Genevieve quit practicing nursing and went to work with David as a receptionist, bookkeeper, and anything else that needed to be done. After her husband died in February of 1987 she remained in Huron and in her own home for the next sixteen years. Some of her hobbies included spending time with her friends, reading, playing cards, watching TV, and music. Her catholic faith was very important to her and she was a member of Resurrection Catholic Parish and active as an usher and CCD classroom monitor until she was no longer able. In June 2003 she moved to StoneyBrook Assisted Living Center where she has lived since that time. She is survived by two sons, Jim Bregel of Chamberlain, SD, Mike (Linda) Bregel of Minnetonka, MN two grandchildren, Matthew and Amanda Bregel, son and daughter of Mike and Linda, her aunt Mildred Gunderson of Milbank, SD, one sister-in-law, Cynthia Bregel of Kansas City, MO; her cousins Marjorie Jean Sprung of Milbank, SD, Ida Kelly of Vancouver, WA, Richard (Diane) Gunderson of St. Paul, MN, Roger (JoAnn) Gunderson of Kettle River, MN and Dale Gunderson of Rapid City, SD; two nieces and one nephew, Jane, Amy and Tom all of Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, Peter Matthew Bregel, her parents, two brothers-in law, John Bregel and George Bregel and one sister-in law, Rita (Quentin Kaplan.
