Gene Lentz, age 57, of 1600 Lincoln Ave. SW, Huron, died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral mass will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 28, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with Father Joe Holzhauser officiating. Burial will be at St. Stephens Cemetery at Bridgewater. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the mass at the church Wednesday morning. There will be a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. The family can be contacted at the Al Lentz residence, 619 13th St. SW, in Huron. Gene Nicholas Lentz was born on March 21, 1949, to Edmund and Gertrude (Hillard) Lentz in Mitchell, SD. Gene attended Crippled Childrens Hospital and School in Sioux Falls in 1955. He then lived with his mother in Mitchell until they both moved into the Huron Nursing Home in December of 1981. In March of 1986 Gene moved to the Huron Area Center for Independence and, most recently, has lived at the Lincoln House in Huron. He worked various jobs at the Center and was named the Individual of the Year in 1994. Gene enjoyed anything concerning cars and racing. He is survived by his brother, Al (Jan) Lentz of Huron; 3 nieces, Patricia (Rick) Woolridge of Huron, Jeanne Lentz of Loveland, Colorado, and Terri Gouveia of Valley, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his father, Edmund in 1952; his mother, Gertrude in 1994; and a niece, Kim (Lentz) Soderberg in 1994.
