Gary McDonald, age 60, of rural Huron, died Friday, April 15, 2005, at the Huron Nursing Home. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 19, at American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening and Tuesday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Tuesday afternoon. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Gary McDonald was born on December 27, 1944, to Arthur and Leona (Friedrichsen) McDonald at Huron, SD. He grew up east of Huron in the Sheffield area where he attended elementary school, and graduated from Huron High School in 1962. He then attended 1 year of school at Huron College. On January 20, 1968, Gary married Loretta Pommer at Huron. The couple made their home in the Sheffield area. In 1970, they moved into Huron, returning to the Sheffield area in 1979. Gary worked for Farrell Brothers Construction Company from 1963-1972; Terrace Park from 1972-1979; in 1979 he started McDonald Construction Company which he owned and operated until 1996; Super 8 Motel from 1998-1999; and Holy Trinity Catholic Parish until the present. He was a member of American Lutheran Church, and the Huron Area Antique Power Association. Over the years his main interest was collecting antique gas engines. His other interests included yard work, and in years past he was an avid member of bowling leagues. He is survived by his wife, Loretta of rural Huron; 2 sons, Mark (Yvonne) McDonald of Huron, and Kevin (DayLynn) McDonald of Huron; 7 grandchildren, Caitlin, Mason, Kristina, Derek, Dustin, Darren, and Kandice McDonald; 1 sister, Jeannette (Charles Buzz) Seeman of Marshfield, MO; 1 sister-in-law, Roberta Pommer of Lee Summit, MO; and his mother-in-law, Clara Pommer of Trenton, MO; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Wayne McDonald; 1 sister-in-law, Beverly McDonald; and his father-in-law, Harold Pommer.
