Obituary

Garrett R. Schnabel, age 31, of Huron, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls after a short but courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of his family. Though his time here was far too brief, Garrett's impact on those who knew him will be felt for a lifetime.

His memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Welter Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Garrett was born on May 31, 1994, to Randy and Kerry (Geyer) Schnabel. He was the beloved middle son between his older brother, Jerry, and younger brother, Colton. Garrett attended Huron Public Schools, where he made many lifelong friends. He was baptized at the First Congregational Church.

Garrett found true joy in being outdoors—whether he was working construction or lending a helpful hand on the farm. He approached every task with a strong work ethic and a genuine willingness to help anyone who needed him.

With his big heart and playful spirit, Garrett had a special connection with children. Kids were naturally drawn to him, because he always made each one feel important, seen, and loved. His gentle kindness and bright smile made every room feel a little lighter.

Garrett will always be remembered for his generous soul, his loyalty to family and friends, and the way he made others feel valued. He cared deeply and gave freely, never asking for anything in return.

Grateful for having shared his life are his parents, Randy and Kerry Schnabel of Huron; brothers, Jerry Schnabel and Colton Schnabel, of Huron; grandparents, Ronald Geyer of De Smet and Linda L. Geyer of De Smet; aunts and uncles: Brad and Kim Schnabel of Huron, Suzie and Jim Stahl of Huron, Wade and Sara Geyer of Iroquois, and Amanda Geyer of Huron; along with many cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Garrett is preceded in death by his grandparents, Leo and Carol Schnabel; his uncle, Jerry Schnabel; great-grandparents, Kenneth and Delores (Spencer) Corbin and Richard and Joyce (Wallum) Geyer.

Garrett will be deeply missed, but the memories of his laughter, kindness, and loving presence will remain treasured forever. His legacy lives on in the countless hearts he touched.
