Gail Oestreich, age 70, of rural Highmore and formerly of Huron and Iroquois, died Monday, November 12, 2007 at her home. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Friday, November 16th at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 to 8:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM or Friday until the time of service at the funeral home. Gail Oestreich was born Gail Florence Crandall on October 6, 1937, to Arnon Ross and Evelyn (King) Crandall at Albuquerque, NM. She attended school in New Mexico and graduated from high school. She lived in California and Oregon before moving to South Dakota in February of 1981. On December 28, 1981, Gail married Kenneth Oestreich at Huron. They lived in Huron until 1983 when they moved to Iroquois and then to Highmore in 1989 where she has lived since that time. She worked at different restaurants as a waitress for many years. She was past President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, past President at the Grande level of La Femmes and was a one year executive of the Cheminot National. She enjoyed decorating the Christmas trees at the South Dakota State Capitol for many years and enjoyed cooking. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth R. Oestreich of rural Highmore; 1 daughter, Paulette (Dan) Herman of Springfield, OR; 2 sons, Ronnie Gene (Deborah) Heath of LaPorte, IN and Norman C. Heath of Huron; 1 step daughter, Patricia (Dan) Johnson of Klamath Falls, OR; 3 step sons, Mickey Weber of Germany, Kenneth M. (Rita) Oestreich of Highmore and Ralph O. (Margaret) Oestreich of Ingleside, TX; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Russell (Elaine) Crandall of Albuquerque, NM; 1 sister, Laura (Roy) Pickens of Corpus Christi, TX; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Talmadge Crandall and an infant brother Tracy Lee Crandall.
