Frieda Kotas, age 88, formerly of 812 Pheasant Lane, Huron, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2006, at Huron Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, February 23, at American Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and evening at Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Thursday morning.

The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Frieda Kotas was born Frieda Elizabeth Schroeder on August 29, 1917, to Otto and Dora (Ortbahn) Schroeder in Virgil, SD. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in the American Lutheran Church.

She married her "Clark Gable", John Lewis Kotas on September 21, 1941, and they made their home on farms in the Huron area.

Frieda enjoyed her church, bowling, Senior Center, Senior Rockers, RSVP, gardening, and fishing with her family. Most of all she enjoyed every minute she could spend with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Frieda is survived by a sister, Marie Schortzman of Merced, CA. Left to carry on her and Johns legacy are her daughter, Sandra (Rick) Benson of Wolsey, son Kim A. Kotas of Sioux Falls, and daughter Shelley Wheeler (Fiance Dale Bryan) of Lakeville, MN; 5 grandchildren, Jeff (Karen) Benson, Jodi (Neal) Hegg, Jon (Breann) Kotas, Casey (Bud) Miller, and Justin (Becky) Wheeler; 6 great grandchildren, Clay and Cole, Hayden, Landon and Holden, and Jaret; special to her heart was Jane Raschke (daughter #3).

Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; brothers, Henry, William Bill, Carl, Waldo Shorty; and sister, Alma.
