Frieda Huether, age 85, formerly of 335 21st St. SE, Huron, died Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Monday, September 27, at Mt. Olivet Mennonite Church with Rev. David Koch officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Monday morning. Frieda Huether was born Frieda M. Schortzmann on December 14, 1918, to Carl and Sophia (Weidenbach) Schortzmann on a farm in rural Alpena, SD. She attended grade school and graduated from Alpena High School in 1936. On July 16, 1936, Frieda married Waltimore Huether at Alpena. They made their home on a farm near Alpena and farmed until 1960 when they moved to Huron. Frieda was employed at the Huron Clinic from 1960-1973. In 2001, she became a resident of Prairie Crossings, and in August of this year she entered the Huron Nursing Home. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Mennonite Church and the Ladies Fellowship. She is survived by 1 brother, Palmer (Leatta) Schortzmann of Merced, CA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Waltimore on July 13, 1976; an infant son, Quentin Carl Huether on December 7, 1961; 3 brothers, Marvin, Milton, and Ervin Schortzmann; 2 sisters, Alma Huether, and Hilda Beach; a great nephew, Bruce Wessel; and a great great nephew, Matt Wessel.
