Obituary

Freda Lien, age 89, of 50 7th St. SE, Huron, died Sunday, July 8, 2007, at the Golden Living Center at Redfield, SD. Her funeral service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 11, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. L. Scott Spiehs officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Wednesday morning. The family will be present from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Freda Lien was born Frieda Helene Stolz on July 17, 1917, to Henry and Charlotte (Mebius) Stolz at Helena, MT. As a young child she moved with her family to the Wessington Springs, SD, area. She attended school in the Virgil school system. Following completion of her formal education she remained on the family farm until her marriage to Palmer Lien on December 8, 1936, in Huron. They lived in Huron and rural Huron over the years. In addition to be a homemaker Freda worked as a nurses aid at St. Johns Hospital in Huron from 1964 until her retirement in 1983. In the following years she volunteered at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, and the Huron Area Senior Center. Her many interests included dancing, playing billiards, playing cards, Bingo, and crocheting. She is survived by 3 sons, Dallas (Jan) Lien of Brooklyn Park, MN, Gary (Ann) Lien of Belle Fourche, SD, and Greg (Carol) Lien of Mechanicsville, VA; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 3 sisters, Alma Owens of Huron, Aldora Biffle of Woodward, OK, and Nina (Earl) Haugen of Aberdeen; 1 sister-in-law, Beuhlah Stolz of Ft. Worth, TX; and special friend, Eleanor Nelson-Davy of Huron. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters, Viola Stolz, Elizabeth Stolz, and Elsa Davis; 1 brother, Raymond Stolz; 3 brothers-in-law, Harold Owens, Roy Biffle, and Roy Davis.
