Frances Steffensen, age 94, of Huron, SD, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, at American Lutheran Church with burial of her cremated remains at Riverside Cemetery. Memorial visitation with family present will be Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Frances Steffensen was born Frances Emilia Norgaard, daughter of Andrew and Christine (Nelson) Norgaard, on January 13, 1917, on the family farm near Lake Poinsett, SD, Kingsbury County. She received her education in the Lake Poinsett area. On April 17, 1936, Frances married Esbern Steffensen in Watertown, SD. She worked at Swift meat packing company for 1 year; then Armour & Company meat packing plant for 27 years in the trim department. She was a member of American Lutheran Church; Moose Lodge; and her interests included playing Bingo, needle point, and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She is survived by 2 children, Jimmy (Julie) Steffensen of Federal Way, WA, Joannie (David) Ringheimer of Huron, SD; daughter-in-law, Linda Steffensen of Tacoma, WA; 11 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Esbern on August 9, 1963; 2 children, Jerry Steffensen, Jack Steffensen; and 4 grandchildren. Frances died late Wednesday afternoon at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home at the age of 94 years, 10 months, 24 days.
