Obituary

Floyd A. Gramps Munion, age 87, of 1345 Michigan Ave SW, Huron, died Thursday, October 6, 2005 at the Huron Nursing Home. His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 11th at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Lafraniere officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening and Tuesday until the time of service at the Welter Funeral Home. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home with the family present from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Floyd Arnold Munion was born on January 3, 1918, to Guy and Gladys (Motes) Munion in Kingsbury County. He lived with his family in the Wessington area where he attended rural schools. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps cutting trees and farmed in the Wessington area. On June 1, 1940, Floyd married Vivian Phelps at Arlington. They lived in Arlington for a short time before they moved to Huron where Floyd has lived for the last 60 years. Floyd worked at several places including the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, Fairmont Ice Cream and he also did concrete work. He worked at Armours and Company from 1959 until his retirement in 1980. He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge. He is survived by 2 daughters, Joanne Menning of Huron, SD and Jeanette (Elmer Jr.) Fink of Wessington Springs, SD; 6 grandchildren, Floyd Fink of Wessington Springs, SD, Bert Fink of Wessington Springs, SD, Jeanne (Gary) Maier of Paullina, IA, Travis Fink of Plankinton, SD, Charles (Charity) Fink of Mitchell, SD and Dean (Laura) Menning of Chancellor, SD; 8 great grandchildren, Terri, Heather, Carrie, Robert, Nichole, Dillon, Melissa and Samantha; a special friend Nancy Mead of Huron, SD; 1 brother Earl Munion of Oregon; 2 sisters Betty Jansen of Minnesota and Mildred Jensen of Huron and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian on March 22, 1987, his parents, a granddaughter Judy Ann Menning and 3 brothers Virgil, Roger and Darold. Casket bearers will be Charles Fink, Travis Fink, Dean Menning, Kevin Metter, Don Root and Floyd Fink.
