Florence Reno, age 89, of Huron, SD, and formerly of rural Hitchcock, peacefully entered into the arms of her loving savior on Saturday, January 15, 2010, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home.
Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, at Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.; or Wednesday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.
Florence Reno was born Florence Vivian Jockheck, daughter of Fred M. and Ida (Avery) Jockheck, on November 21, 1920, at a farm home near Hitchcock, SD. She graduated from Hitchcock High School in 1939.
On June 27, 1942, Florence married Leonard W. Reno in Huron, SD. To this union was born five children; Vivian Marie, Patricia Eileen Patty, Robert Frederick Bob, William Leonard Bill, and Julie Ann.
During her life time Florence was actively involved in The Merry Mixers Club, TOPS, and Hitchcock Senior Citizens. She was instrumental in the start of the Hitchcock Senior Nutrition Program, at one time serving as their cook. She was a life member of the Hitchcock Raymond-Hart Post #84 American Legion Auxiliary. In 2005 Florence was selected as Mother of the Year for the Hitchcock United Methodist Church.
It didnt matter to Florence if you were family, friend or a hobo off the train, there was always plenty to eat and you were always welcome.
Grateful for having shared her life are children and spouses Vivian of Eustis, Fla.; Patty and Gary of Cavour; Sharon of Huron; Bill and Ardelia of Huron; Julie and Gary of Hitchcock; sister; Gladys of Huron; grandchildren: Trina and Chuck of Huron; Tonya and Michelle of Sioux City, Iowa; Jammie and Evelin of Huron; Jody and Melissa of Newport News, Virginia; Jared and Katie of Huron; Brian and Amy of Sioux Falls; great-grandchildren Adam, Rebekah, Samantha, Jonathan, Daniel, Jackson, and Jillian, all of Huron; Logan and Alexander, both of Newport News, Virginia; Nikki, Meghan, and Joey, all of Sioux City, Iowa; Great-Great-Grandchild, Aliyah of Sioux City, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Arlene and Margaret; her only living aunt Amy; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard on August 15, 1993; son Bob; grandchildren, Jonathan and Jessica; brothers, Don, Fred Fritz, and Stanley; sister-in-law Vivian; brothers-in-law, Elmer, Wayne, and Ed.
