Florence Glanzer, age 95, of 50 7th St. SE, Huron, SD, died Monday, April 20, 2009, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home.
Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23, at Welter Funeral Home with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m.; or Thursday morning one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Florence Glanzer was born Florence Emma Hofer on November 12, 1913, to Mike B. and Anna (Gross) Hofer in Spink County near Carpenter, SD. She grew up there, attended grade school in Barrret Township, and graduated from Iroquois High School. Florence attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, received her teachers certificate, and then taught in rural schools for 5 years.
On August 6, 1940, Florence married George Glanzer in Pipestone, MN. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm in the Bancroft area which they farmed for 30 years. In 1973, they retired from farming and moved to Huron.
She was a member of Bethesda Church of Huron. Her many interests included reading, gardening, sewing, and crocheting for which she won several awards over the years at the South Dakota State Fair.
She is survived by a son, Leelan Glanzer of Phoenix, AZ; twin grandsons, Kelly Glanzer of Phoenix, AZ, and Kevin Glanzer of Phoenix, AZ; 2 sisters, Pearl (Melvin) Hofer of Huron, and Winnie (Ruben) Hofer of Hot Springs; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George on February 28, 1992; 1 daughter, Elaine Smolniker; 1 granddaughter, Laura Glanzer; 1 sister, Elvira Walter; 1 son-in-law, Wilfred Smolniker; 1 brother-in-law, Sam Walter.
