Florence Fromm, age 96, of Huron, SD, formerly of Virgil, SD, died Monday, June 21, 2010, at SunQuest Healthcare Center.
Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 25, at Riverview United Methodist Church with burial at Virgil Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.; or Friday morning one hour prior to the service.
Florence Fromm was born Florence Burma, daughter of Jasper and Adlena (Buchholz) Burma, on April 8, 1914, in Avon, SD. She grew up and attended country school in the Avon / Wessington Springs area. She remained at home and worked as a domestic for various families in the area.
On September 10, 1939, Florence married Erwin Fromm in Wessington Springs. They lived on a farm west of Virgil, SD. In addition to helping Erwin on the farm, Florence raised chickens and sold the eggs in Huron and the surrounding area. She also worked for many years at Raven Industries in Huron. Erwin died on January 5, 1993. Florence continued to live on the farm until 1997 when she moved into Huron. She became a resident of SunQuest Healthcare Center exactly 1 year ago.
She was a member of Virgil United Methodist Church; and a 4-H leader. Her interests included baking, especially cakes and caramel rolls. She was very active in the Virgil Extension Club. Florence was a second mother to many of her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by 2 sons, Don (Nina) Fromm of Pierre, and Dennis (DAnn) Fromm of Huron; 7 grandchildren, Gregory Fromm, Michael (Honeylane) Fromm, Darwin Fromm, Shannon Fromm, Ryan Fromm, Holly (Jim) VanBuskirk, and Shayla (Chad) French; 5 great grandchildren, Stephanie (Gerald) Nelson, Michelle Fromm, Parker VanBuskirk, Mercedez French, and Kade VanBuskirk; and 1 great great grandchild, River Sophia Nelson; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erwin in 1993; 1 grandson, Adam Fromm; and 11 siblings and their spouses, Jasper (Martha) Burma, Bernard Burma, Willy (Elizabeth) Burma, Bertha (Leo) Salmon, Jenny (Johnny) Salmon, Lena (George) Mahwinney, Bessie (Alvin Bud) Opperman, Laura (Hank) Neuharth, Mabel (Martin) Garbe, Ethel (T.C.) Wagner, and Viola (Fred) Marken.
