Obituary

Florence D. Fahey, age 87, of 215 Montana Ave SW, Huron, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with Father Joe Holzhauser officiating. Burial will be at St. Martins Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the Mass at the church Tuesday morning. There will be a Scripture Service at 5:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home with the family present from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Florence Fahey was born Florence D. Hink on March 26, 1919, to Walter and Rosa (Studer) Hink at Redfield, SD. She lived on a farm with her parents 6 miles northeast of Raymond, SD and attended rural school. In 1937, she graduated from Watertown High School and attended Northern College to get her teaching certificate. On January 2, 1942, Florence married Eugene Fahey. They lived on a farm south of Clark for a short time before moving to Huron. While in Huron, Florence taught school at Wessington and De Smet for 1 year. After that she worked at Kaspersons Caf. In August 1965, she moved to the Pine Ridge Reservation and taught at various schools for the next 28 years. When she retired from teaching she moved to Hot Springs and lived with Elmer Slim Coluson until his death on March 5, 1996. She moved to Huron in September 1999, where she has lived since that time. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, altar society, and SDEA. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and visiting with family and friends. She is survived by 3 daughters, Alice Rasmussen of Huron, Nancy Van Doren of Huron and Sue Brown of Brookings; 1 son, Tom Fahey of Cavour; 8 grandchildren, Trent Fahey, Tracy Fahey, Mark Rasmussen, Jane Rasmussen, Bill Van Doren, Chuck Van Doren, Jeff Brown and Denise Brown; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; 2 brothers, Bev (Judy) Hink of Lead and Floyd Hink of Raymond; 2 sisters, Myrna (Don) Kroger of Dell Rapids and Evelyn (Merle) Kroger of Jacksonville, FL; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, her parents, 1 daughter-in-law, Jeanette Jan Fahey on June 23, 2006, 1 brother Robert and 1 sister Anna Stevens. Casket bearers will be Jeff Brown, Mark Rasmussen, Bill Van Doren, Shawn Fahey, Kyle Neuharth, Chuck Van Doren, Jane Rasmussen and Denise Brown. Honorary casket bearers will be Molly and Wayne Russell.
