Fern I. Armstrong, age 89, of Pierre, formerly of Huron, died on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Avera St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre. Her funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 20, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 pm on Sunday at the Welter Funeral Home; or 1 hour prior to the service on Monday. Fern was born on July 9, 1926 in Bates, SD to Samuel and Idessa (Hanks) Miller. She graduated from Miller High School and also graduated from Beauty School in Sioux Falls. On February 16, 1947, Fern was united in marriage to Charles Armstrong at First Presbyterian Church in Huron and made Huron their home for many years. Fern enjoyed flower gardens, reading, watching Minnesota Twins baseball, spending time with her family, and her favorite card game, "skip-bo". She was also known for her witty sense of humor. Fern is survived by 2 sons, John (Jeannie) Armstrong of Pierre and David Armstrong of Sioux Falls; 2 daughters, Mary (Mike) Venables of Hot Springs and Jenny (Steve) Sichterman of Bryant, AR; 12 grandchildren, Matt (Heather) Armstrong, Dawna (Mike) Novak, Angela (Dave) Nauman, Nick (Step) Armstrong, Anthony (Brandy) Armstrong, April Pimental, Jacob Armstrong, Timothy (Jennifer) Armstrong, Eil Venables, Ben (Becca) Venables, Tyler Venables, and Steven Sichterman; 12 great-grandchildren, Lucas Novack, Natasha Novack, Dominick Nauman, Vincent Nauman, Savannah Armstrong, Caleb Armstrong, Parker Armstrong, Daniella Venables, Bailey Venables, Lukas Venables, Kenzie Venables, Bryson Venables, and Baby Sichterman on the way. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles on April 14, 2006, 4 brothers, and 1 sister.
