Evelyn Mae Johnson, age 64, of Huron, SD died at her home on Thursday, December 29, 2011. Her Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Huron, SD, with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Visitation will from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday January 3, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD; or one hour prior to the service at the church. Evelyn Mae Munkvold, the daughter of Ed and Marie (Gran) Munkvold, was born on November 28, 1947 in Scotland, SD. She attended school in the Scotland, SD area. Evelyn married Joseph Gramkow on August 14, 1965 in Yankton, SD. To this union were born a daughter, Tamera, and two sons, Travis and Brian. Evelyn married Harvey N. Johnson on June 1, 1974 in Huron. Harvey passed away in 1995. Evelyn worked for the housekeeping department at the SunQuest Healthcare Center for over 30 years. She also worked as housekeeper for Pepsi Cola for 19 years and also as a housekeeper for a lawyer's office in Huron for 14 years. Evelyn enjoyed fishing the James River in South Dakota, watching baseball especially the Minnesota Twins, and spending time with her family and friends. Evelyn was a very kind and caring person. She was very independent and did not want to be a burden to anyone (everything was fine or okay). Grateful for having shared in Evelyn's life are her 2 sons, Travis (Wanda) Gramkow, and Brian (Juliann) Gramkow, both of Custer, SD; step-son, Norman Johnson, of the Huron area; step-daughter, Peggy Johnson, of Huron, SD; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Edward (Helen) Munkvold, of Menno, SD, Roy Munkvold, of Irene, SD, and Oliver (Jeanette) Munkvold, of Lesterville, SD; 6 sisters: Alice Evenson, of Yankton, SD, Audrey Holupka, of Kendall, SD, Iona (Elmer) Fischer, of Yankton, SD, Edith (Floyd) Weisz, of Yankton, SD, Joyce (Kenneth) Klouchek, of Lesterville, SD, and Connie (John) Knodel, of Menno, SD; 3 sisters-in-law: Peggy and Donna Munkvold, both of Lesterville, SD, and Viola Munkvold, of Menno, SD; many nieces and nephews; and very close and dear friend for many years, Don Reilly of Huron. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Joseph Gramkow; her second husband, Harvey Johnson; daughter, Tamera, in infancy; and 3 brothers, Jerome, Albert, and Roland, Munkvold.
