Evelyn M. Chalcraft, age 75, of 110 4th St. SE, Huron, and formerly of Wessington, died Monday, August 23, 2004, at the Sioux Valley Hospice Cottage at Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 26, at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron with Rev. Kevin Channell officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call this Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Thursday morning. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM this Wednesday evening at the funeral home with the family present from 7:00 - 8:00 PM. Evelyn Chalcraft was born Evelyn Meta Stobbs on June 19, 1929, to Guy Allan and Ada Ruth (Sass) Stobbs in Hand County near Vayland, SD. She attended school in Wessington and graduated from Wessington High School. On September 24, 1948, Evelyn married Donald R. Chalcraft at Huron. The couple lived at Groton, SD, for 27 and-a-half years, before returning to Wessington in 1978. Her husband, Donald, died on June 8, 1996. Evelyn moved to Huron in May of 1997. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Watson-Krauter American Legion Post #110 Auxiliary of Wessington, the Royal Neighbors, and volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Huron Regional Medical Center. She is survived by 1 daughter, Vickie (Richard) Schumacher of Crooks, SD; 6 grandchildren, Jamie Schumacher and his fianc Nicole Brans, Jessica (Jacob) Hill, Amber Schumacher, Carmen Jensen, Richard (Heidi) Heinz, and Chris (Lisa) Heinz; 3 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Edna Peterson of Huron, Nellie (Gilbert) Scheibe of Wolsey, and Blanche McNeil of Huron; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; 1 son, Dennis; 1 daughter, Denise Jensen; 2 brothers, John A. Stobbs, and William Stobbs; 2 sisters, Dollie Scheibe, and an infant sister, Viola; and 1 brother-in-law, Alfred Peterson.
