Eugene Gene Lucklum, age 74, of rural Huron, died Thursday, September 16, 2004, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 21, at Riverview United Methodist Church with Dr. Carl Black officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening or Tuesday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Tuesday afternoon. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Eugene L. Lucklum was born on September 26, 1929, to Joseph and Katherine (Wagner) Lucklum at Huron. He grew up in the Huron area and started farming at a young age. On January 9, 1951, Gene married Catherine Dahl in Huron. They lived on a farm for a number of years, and later he owned Genes TV Service. In 1984, they moved to southern California where they owned and operated Colima Auto Parts until 1994 when they retired and returned to Huron. He was a school bus driver for the Huron School District until his death. He belonged to the Beadle Bums Camping Club and spent many winters in Arizona with friends. He belonged to Farmers Union and attended the Church of the Nazarene. He coached 4-H softball team for a number of years and enjoyed his gardening and yard work. He is survived by his wife, Catherine of Huron; one daughter, Barb (Gary) ORiley of Huron; four sons, Larry (Mary) Lucklum of Huron, Lorin (Bobbi) Lucklum of Huron, Dale (Cheryl) Lucklum of Chino Hills, CA, and Mark Lucklum of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren, Ryan and his fianc Krista, and Derek ORiley, Heather, Matt, Mindy, Drew, Jason, Michael and David Lucklum; one brother, Al (Joseta) Lucklum of Huron; three sisters, Charlene Edelman of Huron, Darlene (Don) Schnabel of Alta Loma, CA, and Lois Juarez of La Puente, CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
