Eugene Dornbush, age 75, of 1119 Kansas Ave. SE, Huron, died Sunday, January 8, 2006, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 11, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin Channell officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Wednesday morning. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Eugene Dornbush was born on July 12, 1930, to Ike and Anna (Van Vugt) Dornbush at Westfield, ND. He grew up and received his education in the Westfield-Pollock area. On March 7, 1952, Gene married Betty Plantage at Strasburg, ND. They moved to Huron in 1953. Gene worked for 9 months at Armour and Company, and then started a 36-year career with the Department of Transportation in the engineering department as a surveyor and inspector of roads and bridges. After his retirement in 1990 he continued to work for the city of Huron in the engineering department on a part time, seasonal basis. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Huron Area Senior Center, Huron & Beadle County Credit Union, and the American Federation of State and Municipal Employees (AFSME). His many interests included woodworking, hunting, fishing, attending auctions, watching sporting events especially car racing, yard work, gardening, and fixing things. He is survived by his wife, Betty of Huron; 2 sons, Daniel (Cindy) Dornbush of Omaha, NE, and Darold (Jill) Dornbush of New Richmond, WI; 1 daughter, Deanna (Jeff) Kingery of Suquamish, WA; his mother, Anna Dornbush of Strasburg, ND; 7 grandchildren, Dustin Dornbush, Kylee Dornbush, Ethan Dornbush, Karissa Kingery, Katie Dornbush, Maggie Dornbush, and Anna Dornbush; 2 sisters, Shirley Herman of Turtle Lake, ND, and Marlene Dykema of Pollock, ND. He was preceded in death by his father, Ike in 1995; and infant sister, Marlene Faye Dornbush; an infant son, William Ira Dornbush; and 2 brothers-in-law, Ronald Herman, and Orville Dykema.
