Eugene 'Gene' Bittner, age 60, of Vancouver, WA, and formerly of Huron, died from a heart attack while pheasant hunting near Carpenter, SD, on Saturday, October 20, 2007. His memorial service will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron with Rev. Brian Grover officiating, and Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. There will be no visitation. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Welter Funeral Home. Eugene Bittner was born on February 20, 1947, to Erven and Bertha (Diede) Bittner in Huron. He graduated from Huron High School in 1965. On April 14, 1966, Gene entered the U.S. Air Force. After his honorable discharge on April 13, 1970 Gene began working for Scotts Paper Company in Everett, WA, as a superintendent; in 1991 he worked for the Voith Paper Company Inc., as a technical service representative and was employed there at the time of his death. On September 12, 2003, Gene married Dina "Tina" Sekste. He enjoyed pheasant hunting, fly fishing, spending time with family, friends, and his two canine hunting companions, Lakota and Choteau. He is survived by his wife, Dina "Tina" of Vancouver, WA; his son, Todd Bittner of Marysville, WA; his stepson, Todd (Tina Louise) Borseth of Mill Creek, WA; his mother, Bertha Bittner of Huron; 1 brother, Darrell (Barb) Bittner of Loveland, CO; 1 sister, Mary (Omer) Pearson of Huron; his nieces and nephews, Angie (Todd) Brueske of Woonsocket, Brett (Tina) Pearson of Huron, Chad (Kelly) Bittner of Las Vegas, NV, and Diana (Jeff) Gross of Kersey, CO. He was preceded in death by his father, Erven, in 1983. Gene will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
