Etta Mae Doolittle, 87, of Wolsey, SD passed away on November 26, 2010 in Ames, IA while visiting her daughter where she became ill and was hospitalized.
Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist church at 3:00 pm Sunday, Nov 28th, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Etta Mae Wiese was born on May 25, 1923 in Huron, South Dakota to Harry and Marie Wiese. She attended school in Huron and married Willis Doolittle on March 9, 1945 at the Methodist Church in Huron, SD. In 1946 they purchased a farm northwest of Huron, SD and raised their family.
Etta Mae graduated from Huron College with a two year Teaching Certificate and later obtained her Bachelors Degree in Education at Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. She spent her career educating students of all ages in local communities at Wolsey, Broadland, and Virgil from 1944 to 1984 when she retired from the Wolsey School. While there she established the Special Education program and was actively involved in the Special Olympics.
Grateful for having shared in Etta Maes life are her son, Barry Doolittle, Philippines; daughters, Lynnette (Mark Jensen), Ames, IA and Sharon Reel, Tomball, TX; son, Russell Doolittle, Wolsey, SD. Twelve grandchildren: Becky, Trisha, Thomas, Kelly, James, Meleah, Nick, Chelsea, James, Angel, Chrissy, and Seth. And seven great-grandchildren: Carter, Matthew, Sydney, Tyler, Samantha, John and Grace.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Willis Doolittle, and sister, Betty Johnson, Huron, SD.
