Obituary

Ethyl Fay Olson, age 101, of 1345 Michigan Ave. SW, Huron, died Friday, December 9, 2005, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 14, at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial will be at the Wolsey Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday until time of service at the Welter Funeral Home. Ethyl Olson was born Ethyl Fay Beadles on May 11, 1904, to William Joseph and Alice May (Harper) Beadles at Detroit, IL. She moved with her family to South Dakota in 1914, settling on a farm near Wessington. She attended Rogers Country School and graduated from Wessington High School in 1924. On November 1, 1924, Ethyl married Arthur J. Olson. They lived at Wolsey for several years, moving to Huron in 1936. She was the head cook at the Huron Junior and Senior High Schools for 19 years. During the summer months she attended cooking classes at the Home Economic Department at SDSU in Brookings. Ethyl touched the lives of those she met with kindness, love and gentle strength. She was a wonderful homemaker who loved to crochet, garden, and play cards. She leaves behind many friends who loved her dearly and she will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by 2 sons, Robert (Nellie) Olson of Phoenix, AZ, and Gary Olson of Pensacola, FL; 9 grandchildren, Roger (JoAnn) Olson, Rick Olson, Michael (Denise) Olson, Christopher (Shauna) Olson, Andrew Olson, Steve (Karen) Englund, Linda Englund, Jimi (Maureen) Englund, and Randy (Marina) Englund; 10 great grandchildren, Mark Olson, Brian Olson, Bobby Olson, Anders Olson, Maren Olson, David Olson, Nolan Englund, Jenna Englund, Cullen Englund, and Perri Rose Englund. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur on April 14, 1978; 2 infant children, Mavis Olson, and Leland Olson; 1 daughter, Avis Englund; 1 son-in-law, Homer Englund; 2 brothers; and 1 sister.
